Job Description
The Turf Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining all aspects of the Day Golf Practice Facility, including the cross-country course and landscape areas around the entrance. The Day Golf Practice Facility lawn spaces are highly maintained turf and landscape areas requiring a higher level of care and knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the mowing, trimming, and blowing of golf facility areas, including the fairways, tee boxes, range, and cross-country course. This requires making sure the reel-cut mower is adjusted and properly set up before mowing.
- Equipment maintenance: Assist with the maintenance and daily set-up of the equipment used to maintain the golf facility and cross-country course including, but not limited to, grinding reels, sharpening rotary blades, adjusting cutting heights, and maintaining fluid levels.
- Turf cultural practices: Utilize techniques that include, but are not limited to, topdressing, aerification, and vertical mowing.
- Scheduling, assigning, and prioritizing duties: Responsible for self-scheduling daily work tasks and scheduling duties for student workers as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Work experience or education within the turfgrass industry is required.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of how to operate a reel-cut mower.
- Knowledge of how to operate small hand-held landscaping equipment.
- Knowledge of turf needs and requirements throughout the year.
- Ability to communicate, listen, and problem-solve.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Associate's Degree in Turfgrass Management.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of how to adjust a reel-cut mower.
- Knowledge of how to operate a tractor with various attachments.
